Congratulations – but now what?
Who’s going to make the first move and send the dreaded ice-breaker message?
Where a moment ago you felt excitement and anticipation, now your head is full of questions, doubts, regret over having ever thought this was a good idea…
The good news is, there are some things which are proven to get a reply – and we mean in a positive way , rather than a “never contact me again” way.
A study conducted by Plenty of Fish into the messages which got responses found there are some buzzwords which do work.
Lead with a compliment.
Namely, lead with with words like “beautiful.” “pretty,” “gorgeous,” “handsome,” “cute,” “nice,” and “smile.”
Yes, apparently it’s that easy.
No profound philosophical observations or sonnets required and, it should go without saying, no need to ask for dodgy pictures.

Shannon Smith, communication manager at Plenty of Fish, told Brit & Co :
“Striking up a conversation with someone you’re interested in can be intimidating, but having proven words that [people] will respond to on a dating app makes for a great starting point!
“We scoured through 60 thousand messages to identify the top words used by men and women that actually lead to conversations…we love that subtle compliments make all the difference!”
